... Not only does in handle well, the comments and compliments one receives from fellow kayakers is really something. Seems that everybody with a plastic boat wants a wooden one, I guess it goes with the outdoor mindset. I had one problem with the rudder pedal channels fastening to the hull. It seems that the nut that is epoxyed to the hull did not have enough strength. It kept breaking off. I was concerned about this when I was building the boat. I removed the nuts, sanded the hull smooth, and puttied a 2” x 2” x 3/8” piece of oak with a brass screwed insert (cut in half) embedded in it to the hull. Then I covered it over with cloth and epoxy. It will be there forever now....a few pic’s of our 4th of July trip to Tutka Bay, just south of Homer AK. “Was a beautiful day in Tutka Bay” as the saying goes. Will be replacing my wife’s blue plastic kayak with a wooden one winter after this one. Thanks again for all the help. - Ron Swartz, Anchorage, Ak. |
